As I gather the hardware for Project W12E13, due to VMWorld going on, all these visualization talk got me thinking “do I really want to use Microsoft Hyper-v Core 2012 or VMWare vSphere Hypervisor for my virtual server?”

My experience with visualization start with VMWare products, used VMWare Server to manage my virtual desktop environment for years.  Started using VMWare Server in 2006 when it just came out and used it till it was discontinued in 2010. Used it so much that I became  a member of VMUG – Seattle, attend meet-ups whenever I can. I moved over to Microsoft Hyper-v solution when VMWare Server was discontinued,  at the time it seemed to be a better solution but now weighing options.

As I was finishing up above paragraph I remembered why I went with Hyper-V, Management. I can pull-up my Windows 7 or 8 machine install the hyper-v management feature and manage my Hyper-V server from anywhere peacefully without any headache, extra cost or application makes Hyper-V worthwhile.

YES, VMware vSphere Hypervisor has a lesser footprint and there are other benefits over Hyper-V but for me free hassle-free management trumps everything.
